And I have to say that it worked perfectly and now the screws are in there nice and tight. So if anyone has stripped screw holes around that area, this is the perfect and easiest fix.

"Self tapping screws" suggest that you don't need a pilot hole, but they're really meant for sheet metal. They'll never get started in the steel skin of your door.
